Further to the news that Ofsted inspectors will be spending the week at Isle of Wight council offices, Newport West councillor, Chris Whitehouse, who also acts as education spokesman for the 15 Conservative Councillors says,
“I welcome the Ofsted inspection. We need to find out where the systemic problems are before we can ensure that they are properly addressed.
“Conservative Councillors will be doing all that they can to support local schools moving forwards and I am confident that Ofsted will find there is real progress being made in many areas.
“Councillors were also given a very detailed brief by senior officials from Hampshire County Council on Friday afternoon. They were an impressive team and the new partnership between the Island and Hampshire is good news for our schools and for the next generation of children.
“There is a huge amount of work to be done to drive up standards across the Island.
“I will be working with Cllr Richard Priest to deliver the improvements that are so clearly necessary.”
