The name of the person found at the bottom of the cliffs near the Botanic Gardens/Steephill has been released.
Clifford John Holbrook, 45, of Wootton was found on 15 Nov 2011 at 13:36 by a member of the public.
Coastguard and police were called. He died from multiple injuries.
An inquest was opened and adjourned on 18 November by the Isle of Wight coroner, Mr Mathews.
The full inquest is expected in 3-6 months.
Thoughts are with those who knew him.
