Island riders take part in Tour of Lod Valley time trials

Arthur Venables and Matt Harris of team …a3crg travelled over to the mainland to Fernhurst, where they both took part in the notoriously tricky Tour of Lod Valley time trial early Sunday morning, with it being 23 miles long but having over 2,000ft of elevation, with some section having gradients of up to 20%.

Matt continued on from his success of the previous weekend, and took on the challenging Lod Valley course with an impressive time of 59 minutes and 10 seconds and an average speed of 23.1mph, giving him eight place despite having his chain fall off on route. Matt also helped …a3crg in taking the overall team prize.

Puncture and chain problems
Junior rider Arthur, managed a time of 1:05:36 and an average speed of 21mph on the course, which placed him well in the field.

Although he suffered a puncture just before the start of the time trial leading some frantic bike maintenance to get to the start line, while he also suffered from the chain falling off but at the foot of the toughest hill with a 20% gradient (Museum Hill).

The field consisted of 34 riders with another separate field for the two-up time trial.

The fastest time posted was a 57:40 with an average speed of 23.9mph, only 0.8mph faster than Matt, and the slowest rider posting a 1:24:16 respectively.
