SPORTS club members and volunteers interested in coaching are being invited to a free conference which is being staged on the Isle of Wight later this month.
The conference is being organised by the Isle of Wight Council’s Sports Unit and is the first of its kind for the Isle of Wight.
It will be held on October 30 between 6pm and 9pm at Ryde Theatre and is open to all sports clubs across the Island and adults who are interested in volunteering and coaching.
The event looks to giving advice and support to clubs on how they can develop and thrive. The sports unit staff will be on hand to give help to clubs on how to apply for grants and funding, administration and accreditation.
There will also be advice on what makes a good volunteer, advice on training and information about the Isle of Wight Council Sports Unit Accreditation Scheme.
In addition, the conference will play host to an information fair with national governing bodies of sport and courses available to volunteers.
The Isle of Wight Council sports unit have also gone into partnership with Sussex Downs College to help deliver the “On Your Marks” programme.
This exciting programme is funded by the Learning and Skills Council and the European Social Fund and aims to give volunteers in the sports sector and wider community valuable training.
This training will include child protection, health and safety and first aid. All the training will be offered free as well as childcare and travel expenses if needed.
Any volunteers interested in taking part in the “On Your Marks” training programme can book their free place at the conference for more information and to register an interest.
