Island Roads share on update on the situation with Wootton Bridge, which currently has a speed and load capacity set following the discovery of damage earlier in the summer.
The long-term solution is still being worked on, but new temporary restrictions on some heavy goods vehicles using Wootton Bridge are expected to be in place later this week, as well as a 20mph speed limit for the rest of us.
A huge backtrack from Island Roads, as they seek to explain why the official notice they sent out, specifying that as of 3:30pm today restrictions came into effect on Wootton Bridge, didn't mean that at all.
As suggested last week, certain restrictions have now been placed on traffic passing over Wootton Bridge. This is following the discovery of cracks in the bridge.
Councillor's letter talks of serious structural weaknesses; weight and speed limit likely and a four week to four month closure being possible depending on the level of repair undertaken.
All Islanders are aware how heavily this route is used, but the recently-detected damage to the bridge must be repaired. The impact of any closure could be considerable.
