Salvation Army Santa and his elf

Isle of Wight children share Christmas wishes with Santa in Newport

On Newport’s Day of Christmas, 141 excited children visited Santa and his elf in the Salvation Army grotto. Saturday certainly was a day of free festive cheer thanks to all manner of Army volunteers.

Time well spent as children talked with Santa. They left with presents, sweets and a smile. Some commented on Santa’s beard baubles, remembered from last year. They promised to return next year too.

Dinosaurs, dolls, computers, scooters and bikes were the presents in demand. The most surprising wish – to have their favourite food on Christmas day – noodles.

Laughter could be heard as families often saw their younger children peer through the door of the grotto entrance. Suddenly stop and stare, before breaking into a huge smile. Some even fell into a sprint as they raced to hug Santa or give him a picture or card, they had made whilst waiting patiently.

Photos were taken by families. Perhaps, next year we can share some of these happy excited faces.

To all families we say, thank you for your patience on this very busy Saturday and to all of Santa’s little helpers.

Long may children be excited by the magic of Christmas. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Best wishes, Santa Claus
