The Isle of Wight council is endorsing a bid by the Southampton and Isle of Wight Music Hub to become the Hub Lead Organisation for the region.
Full Council this week unanimously approved a motion by the Cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Debbie Andre, to endorse the hub’s Arts Council bid.
A thriving partnership
This year alone, the Isle of Wight Music Hub has reached close to 7,500 children through its inspiring programme of performances, workshops and activities.
The hub is a thriving partnership that works with schools and settings across the Island — making musical opportunities, affordable, enjoyable and educational to all children and young people.
Through a range of innovative approaches, they seek to develop inclusion, participation and progression for children in schools, the community and beyond.
Isle of Wight Youth Offending Team
They have referral systems with the Isle of Wight Youth Offending Team and work closely with SEND settings using music as an intervention and to support wellbeing and social and emotional outcomes.
Speaking at Wednesday’s meeting, Councillor Andre said,
“Through supporting and delivering music in schools and the community, the Isle of Wight Music Hub ensures every child has access to the ongoing music making that ensures a rich and varied curriculum.
“Schools, headteachers and music leaders all see them as a first point of contact for support with music due to the quality of their delivery or training or the offers they give them via the hub menu to take part in projects, workshops and many events for free.”
She added,
“If they are successful in this bid, they will be able to continue to inspire and enthuse our Island young people for the next academic year and beyond.
“I want all of our Island children to continue to have the opportunity to experience the lifelong joy that an early introduction to music can bring.”
