Isle of Wight council celebrates International Transgender Day of Visibility with a flag raising ceremony

Today (31st March 2025) is International Transgender Day of Visibility.

Councillor Karl Love, Chairman of Isle of Wight council, attended a flag raising ceremony at County Hall this morning, alongside councillor colleagues and officers.

He told OnTheWight,

“Our Island is made up from many different community groups of people. Most have a day of recognition, some have a flag or emblem which one can relate to, highlighting their positive contributions, hopes and to represent aspirations and achievements.

“Our Island life is much stronger for having colourful diversity in all things. We live a positive prosperous life through working happily together.”

Love: We must extinguish the flames of hatred
The East Cowes ward councillor went on to add,

“While significant progress in recent years has been made across the worlds with Trans visibility,  Trans rights, safety and lives are increasingly being threatened by difficult and negative turns of hatred, pointing the finger of blame where it has no place or logical reason to be.

“We make our world safer, happier and stronger by working together in harmony.  We must extinguish the flames of hatred using education and learning and acting with understanding and compassion. We also need to support families rightfully to enable positive choices for them and those they love.”

Love: Let us all be the people we are together
Councillor Love finished by saying,

“We are all different people having multiple personalities during our lifetime, as with our inner child who occasionally pops out sometimes happily and sometimes with regret.

“Let us all be the people we are together, enjoying making our Island a happy one, creating new friendships that can help build our island economy, hopes and dreams for the future.”
