More than 480 people attended the Isle of Wight Council’s Your Future event last week at The Isle of Wight College.
Organised by the council’s Island Futures team, the event was aimed at 14 to 18 year olds and their parents/carers to find out more about various career pathways, from vocational courses to apprenticeships and higher education.
More than 35 exhibitors
More than 35 exhibitors attended showcasing opportunities available both on and off the Island.
Among these were the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, GKN Aerospace and a host of universities, sixth form colleges and local training providers, as well as information on personal development, wellbeing, and volunteering opportunities.
Carter: It was fantastic to see such engagement and positivity
Naomi Carter, service director for education, inclusion and access, said,
“This was the first year an event was organised solely for those aged 14 to 18 and their parents/guardians and it was fantastic to see such engagement and positivity.
“Lots of exhibitors had productive discussions and felt there was a positive vibe on the day and an excellent opportunity to share knowledge on the career opportunities available.
“It is hoped this will become an annual event for young people and parents/carers to raise aspirations and awareness of post 16 opportunities available.”
