The Isle of Wight council is making it easier for tradespeople to park close to where they are working.
A new business waiver permit is now available giving flexibility for tradespeople visiting customers where parking restrictions would normally apply.
How it works
The permit allows parking within council pay and display areas — both on and off street — as well as resident parking bays, as part of an initial 12-month pilot.
The purpose of the permit is to allow tradespeople such as plumbers, electricians and builders sufficient time to complete their business with the customer they are visiting.
The permit is not valid at any other time.
Jordan: Please do take advantage of the three-month introductory offer
Councillor Phil Jordan, Cabinet member for transport and infrastructure, said he had received many requests for such a permit on the Island.
He said,
“The introduction of the permit is designed to give flexibility to tradespeople where it is necessary to park as close as possible to the resident’s premises.
“We want to support those businesses who in turn are supporting our residents, often vulnerable, in times of emergencies and call out work.
“It is difficult enough in many circumstances for critical or planned work to be carried out effectively because of parking issues and I am confident this scheme will help many residents and tradespeople alike.
“Please do take advantage of the three-month introductory offer which is designed to encourage business take up of the scheme during the first year of operation.”
