Tune into the One Show on BBC1 from 7pm on Wednesday night this week, but make sure you have a box of tissues nearby.
Neal and Penny Staley, the parents of ten year old Evey Staley who tragically died in August 2012 after the car she was in was hit by a drunk driver, appear in a feature about organ donation.
Tough decisions
Back in 2012, whilst Penny was still in a coma, Neal had to make to incredibly tough decision to agree for Evey’s heart to be donated to a critically ill girl.
A couple of weeks ago the Staley’s met with five year old Scarlett, the recipient of Evey’s heart, and her family.
They are all hoping that sharing their stories will help the campaign to encourage more people to sign up as organ donors.
Isle Drive Safe
Hopefully the presenters might just have time to ask Neal, who’ll be on the sofa too, about the hugely effective anti-drink driving campaign, in collaboration with charity Isle Drive Safe, that has taken place on the Isle of Wight over the last few years.
With great bravery, the Staley’s allowed their car, which was hit by the drunk-driver that night in August 2012, to be put on show around the Island as a warning to drivers about what can happen if you drive under the influence of drink or drugs.
It’s hard-hitting seeing the car face-to-face and knowing the outcome of the incident, but has been hugely effective.
