Isle of Wight Girlguides presented with BP Awards

Guides from across the Isle of Wight undertook challenges during a special weekend of events organised by Girlguiding IW BP Adviser, Tammy Vincent.

Tammy said,

“Emma, my assistant leader, and I would like to say it was an honour to take these girls on their adventure and see them conquer their fears, make new Guiding friends and exceed by far the expectations set for them.”

BP Awards for 15 girls
Tammy added,

“In total 15 girls have been presented with the BP award. All the Guides completed the award with their adventure taking place at Kingswood, Bembridge.

“During the challenges they conquered fears, worked together as a team (having only just met- they were amazing) and also set themselves their own individual challenges. During the weekend they took part in Abseiling, Fencing, Archery, Obstacle courses, 3-G Swing, Jacobs Ladder, Bushcraft and much more. Activities were very diverse and all the girls pursued personal challenges which tested them.”

Fun and challenging
Erin Smallman, from Lake Guides, said,

“I enjoyed the BP Weekend very much, especially making new friends and the 3-G swing which was really a challenge.”

Ashleigh Davis, also from Lake Guides added,

“The 3-G swing was a real challenge for me as to get on it you have to climb to the top and I really don’t like heights.”

Red carpet event
For the presentation of their BP Awards the Guides chose to have a Hollywood Oscar style Red Carpet Event with every girl walking the carpet in style before being presented with her certificate.

Most of the Guides have now become members of Girlguiding’s Senior Section (for girls and young women aged 14-25) and are pursuing even more challenges within Girlguiding and/or undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award.
