The Isle of Wight is named in the Telegraph today as one of ten most important wildlife sites in the UK.
Apparently, Ningwood Common Wildlife Reserve plays host to the rare Reddish Buff Moth.
Richard Grogan, Head of Conservation for the Isle of Wight with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust told VB, “Our staff have been looking after this moth for the past twenty years since it was rediscovered on the Island, after being declared extinct in Britain.
“The Wildlife Trust works hard with local landowners, volunteers and residents to conserve the Reddish Buff Moth in its only native British site and all those involved should be justifiably proud of their efforts.
“We will continue to manage our land for all the interesting and beautiful wildlife that is found there and we appreciate the support we have received from funders, local experts and the Island’s community.”
Good work guys!
