Thanks to Tim for the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra for details of the upcoming concert. Ed
The Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra start their new season with a concert on 14th November at the Medina Theatre starting at 7.15pm.
Pre-season the orchestra members have been busy persuading regular concert goers to become season ticket holders, and this has worked well with more season ticket holders than last season.
Early booking advised
Tickets are now on general sale from the Medina Theatre box office (01983 823 884) or via their website
Last season several of the concerts were sell outs, so early booking is advised.
Portsmouth Point
The concert will open with the energetic overture to Portsmouth Point by William Walton. This is quite an apt opening as Portsmouth is so near to the Island.
The orchestra will then be joined by regular soloist Alexander Sitkovetsky for a performance of the ever popular Violin Concerto No.1 by Max Bruch. This work often appears in the Classic FM Hall of Fame.
The orchestra are looking forward to welcoming back Mr Sitkovetsky after his spell-binding performance of the Sibelius concerto last season.
Mahler’s 1st Symphony
After the interval there will just be the one work, the massive 1st Symphony by Gustav Mahler, known as the Titan.
This symphony contains wonderful music but calls for a very large orchestra.
Book now
If you have never been to one of the IWSO concerts before this would be a good one to try – it is full of good tunes and plenty going on within the orchestra.
So why not book your tickets and join us for what should be a wonderful evening. Read Jonathan Dodd’s reviews of previous concerts for a flavour or what to expect.
