Enormous congratulations are in order for Isle of Wight band, Wet Leg, who last night (Sunday) picked up two awards at the world-famous Grammys.
The band picked up a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance for their debut single ‘Chaise Longue’ (released in June 2021), and their debut self-titled album, Wet Leg (released in April 2022), picked up the Best Alternative Music Album award.
Who are Wet Leg?
Wet Leg is Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, who are joined on the road (which has been pretty much full-time since they launched their first single) by Henry Homes on drums, Ellis Durand on bass and Josh Mobaraki on guitar and synth.
The album was created with contributions from other two other Islanders not present at the awards, Michael Champion (composer and musician) and Jon McMullen (producer).
A magical feeling
In an interview last night, Hester said the idea of being nominated for the Grammys was such a strange concept,
“Being who we are and where we are from and the way that we approached this band together, it’s just the other end of the scale of what we thought we’d be doing, if you had asked us ‘what do you think you’ll be doing in a year?’.
“It’s quite overwhelming but very magical nonetheless.”
On the subject of being around other nominated artists Rhian said,
“It’s kind of like safari, but with mystical beings that make really good music.”
World domination
They have taken the world by storm and picked up millions of fans around the globe.
As well as picking up these two Grammys, the band have four BRIT Award nominations – you can watch the show on ITV on Saturday night from 8pm – and the album was nominated for a Mercury Award last year.
