Hester Chambers and Rhian Teasdale

Debut album for Isle of Wight band, Wet Leg, fast approaching Gold Disc status: Plus four BRIT Award nominations

Isle of Wight music duo, Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, otherwise known as Wet Leg, have much to be excited about in 2023.

Their self-titled debut album is fast approaching 100,000 UK sales, meaning Gold Disc territory (although they’ve achieved more than 300,000 sales worldwide) and it was also the fifth biggest vinyl release of 2022.

Four BRIT Award nominations
Today, they add another incredible achievement to the list – they have been nominated in four categories at The BRIT Awards 2023:

  • Group of the Year
  • Best New Artist
  • Mastercard Album of the Year
  • Best Rock/Alternative Act

They will also be performing at the ceremony on 11th February 2023.

Rhian and Hester said,

“Somebody hold our horses while we get to grips with this wild news – being nominated for a BRIT Award is too hard to comprehend.  We never could have expected for our wee band to achieve this.”

Not only that but in three weeks time, the band will find out how they did in the Grammys, where they have been nominated in five categories.

An instant hit around the world
Released on Domino Records in April 2022, the debut album hit the top of the UK and Australian charts in its first week.

Domino’s General Manager, Chris Scott, told Music Week that the band’s manager, Martin Hall (of Hall or Nothing) has done a great job of keeping the band travelling from market to market.

The touring schedule has certainly been relentless and they are back in the USA later this month, then onto Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Denmark … the list goes on.

Others pivotal to Wet Leg’s success
There are several other Islanders who have also been pivotal to the success of the Wet Leg’s music.

Michael Champion, from CHAMPS fame was heavily involved with the creation of the band’s debut album, Wet Leg, as was Jon McMullen who produced the album along with Dan Carey and Joshua Mobaraki (who also plays guitar and synth with the band on tour).

Other Islanders include Henry Holmes (drums) and Ellis Durand (bass), who have been touring with the band relentlessly since summer 2021.

Having a ball
Anyone following their social media accounts, will have seen what a ball the band have had over the last 18 months, not just touring, but with front row seats at Gucci’s catwalk show in Milan, appearing on many TV shows, being nominated for a Mercury Prize Award and more.

They now have 536,000 followers on TikTok, 308,000 followers on Instagram, just short of 59,000 followers on Facebook and 62,000 followers on Twitter.
