Well done to Simon Newton from Bonchurch Landscapes, who was in the right place at the right time today.
He happened to be travelling from Shanklin to Ventnor earlier today just after a tree came down across the carriageway.
Tree down on moving car
Simon tells us the tree hit a car that was travelling towards Ventnor and although the tree smashed the windscreen of the car, the woman was not hurt and was able to drive away.
Simon told OnTheWight,
“I was driving from Shanklin towards Ventnor and came across a traffic jam of about 20 cars in front of me.
“As the road was blocked, they were all turning around and heading back.
“I spoke to the policeman and said, ‘I’ve got a chainsaw in the van, do you want me to clear a carriage way?’
“He said it’s up to you, so I cut it up to clear one of the carriageways, so a single line of traffic could get through.”
Well done Simon and also to Groundsells who are working on clearing the rest of the tree from the other lane.
