Remember the amazing news we reported a week ago that Solent Middle school had achieved an ‘outstanding’ mark in all 27 categories Ofsted measure?
A phenomenal achievement for the school and the Island, one that a tiny percentage of schools around the UK attain.
An Ofsted report that quotes parents saying, “My child has enjoyed nearly four fantastic years at Solent and is confident both academically and as an individual and overall is a well-rounded young person,” would have been something you’d think would’ve been shouted from the rooftops.
Guess what?
The Isle of Wight Council Communications department hasn’t put out an official press release about it. Not a peep – and given that the County Press has covered it today, it would appear unlikely that the council intend to.
13 press releases since, but not a mention
Since the official release of the Ofsted report last Thursday, the Comms office have managed to put out 13 press releases covering subjects like trampolining; composting; noisy tenants and someone visiting Newport Library – but not a single mention of the fantastic achievements of this Island school.
Shame on the comms office, or whoever has ultimate control of the comms office, for not doing their utmost to promote this to the UK’s press.
Perhaps the thought of praising a middle school, which the current Conservative administration wants to remove, isn’t politically acceptable? That shouldn’t matter.
Praise where praise is due.
We thought that the officers on the council were supposed to be free of political bias.
