John Rayment’s 6,000 mile walk for Parkinsons

John Rayment:

Readers may remember the report and podcast we ran back in August last year as John Rayment from Hornchurch in Essex made his way across the Isle of Wight as part of his mammoth 6,000 mile walk in aid of Parkinson’s charities. Ed

John Rayment is continuing his marathon walk to raise money for three charities working to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease: Parkinson’s UK, The Cure Parkinson’s Trust and Parkinson’s Improvement Programme (PIP).

The retired business lecturer is walking 6,000 miles round the coast of Britain, a trek he estimates will take 12 million paces.

Set off in August 2012
Putting his best foot forward, John began his epic journey in August 2012, at the Tilbury Ferry on the River Thames. Since then he has completed the South West Coastal Path, the Wales Coast Path and the Lancashire Coastal Way. Heading north through Cumbria, he crossed the Scottish border on 20th April and is now on the march along the Dumfries and Galloway coast.

12 million paces is no mean feat, but what motivates John is his goal to raise £120,000 to help find a cure for Parkinson’s.

Taking it one step at a time, John is inviting others to join him for part of the walk. People might just want to walk with John or see it as a way of remembering a friend or loved one who has suffered with Parkinson’s.
