The National Trust’s Needles Old Battery will be featured on Channel 5 on Friday when naturalist Kate Humble’s coast walks series is aired on our TV screens from 8pm.
‘Kate Humble’s Coastal Britain’ programme this week sees Kate take a wintry walk around the western corner of the Isle of Wight, where she holidayed as a girl.
Journey begins with a boat trip to the Needles
Starting on Yarmouth’s wooden pier, her journey begins with a boat trip to the Needles, which her Victorian guidebook recommends as the best way to view these impressive chalk stacks, and then continues her walk with a visit to the Needles Old Battery and the Needles headland.
The Natural Trust’s Welcome Manager, Jo-Anne King, says,
“It was great to meet Kate Humble on her walk around the Needles Headland – we were able to show her the breath taking views you have of the Needles from the parade ground of the Needles Old Battery and share the secrets of the New Battery and its rocket testing days.”
