Young people’s Duke of Edinburgh award achievements will be celebrated when the largest number of young people for many years will gather to receive their awards at the annual DofE awards ceremony.

The event will take place at Isle of Wight College, Newport from 7pm on Wednesday 4 January 2017.

60 young people being awarded
There are an amazing 60 recipients this year and all of them have challenged themselves throughout the year, participating in activities, learning new skills and volunteering within the community.

All the participants are supported by volunteer leaders from organisations across the Island including their schools.

Councillor Jonathan Bacon, Isle of Wight Council leader, said:

“I offer my congratulations to all the young people who will be receiving their DofE awards and it is great to see Isle of Wight students embracing this scheme. It is very important as it adds so much to the development of students.

“I would encourage young people who are thinking about doing a DofE award to register and take part. You could find yourselves helping people in the community, getting fitter and developing all sorts of skills outside of the classroom.”

The awards will be presented by Lord Lieutenant Major Martin White and councillor Charles Chapman, the Isle of Wight Council chairman.
