Latest Forward Plan Released By Council: Translated

The Isle of Wight council publishes a list of the major projects that they plan to tackle. They call it the Forward Plan.

Latest Forward Plan Released By Council: TranslatedIt covers a quarter and is updated monthly. The latest Forward Plan has been been released covering May – August 2011.

For your convenience, we’ve included it below for you to look at.

The language, in particular the titles of what is being considered for change, isn’t always obvious, so we’ve created a translation table for you below. Hope you find it useful.

  • Article 4 Direction – Related to Conservation Areas
  • School Estates Strategy – Considering selling off school buildings
  • Corporate parenting – defined as ‘Corporate parenting means the formal and local partnerships needed between all local authority departments and services, and associated agencies, who are responsible for working together to meet the needs of looked after children and young people, and care leavers’.
  • Capital Receipts Programme – Things that they’re planning to sell, eg. buildings, etc
  • Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) – defined as ‘a unique effort to map out the future of the region for the next twenty years’.
  • Highways PFI Revised Funding – Looking at how the PFI will be funded
  • Appointments and Constitutional Issues – How the council works (eg. a recently discussed area was ‘Changes to scrutiny arrangements’ [PDF]) and which councillor does which role.
  • Introduction of Maximised Recycling Approach to Waste Management – How rubbish will be collected on the Island in the future and what will be done with it.
  • Removal of Discretionary Element of Concessionary Fares Scheme for Faith-Based and Post-16 Transport – Up until now the rules of who gets free transport to school and who pays for it has been, as Cllr Pugh said in the last council meeting, skewed in favour of those at faith schools.
