Letting People Have Their Say At Education Consultation Meetings

(As the public are unable to comment on the IW Forum about this subject, don’t forget that you can have your say on the education reforms discussion board we’ve set up – Ed)
The first of ten public meetings regarding Isle of Wight Council’s proposals for educational reform is being held this week. Osborne Middle School in East Cowes hosts the opening meeting from 1900 on Thursday 24 January.

Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings where information regarding each of the three proposed options will be available. Copies of the consultation booklet including a questionnaire will be free to anyone who wants one. The evenings will consist of a short presentation before a question and answer session with representatives from Isle of Wight Council. Each meeting will be led by a moderator and will close at 2100.

Due to strict health and safety regulations, the number of visitors will be limited at each venue (depending on the venue size). In the event of a number of people being unable to attend the meetings due to capacity issues, an alternative meeting may be held at a future date in the area. Visitors are recommended to arrive in plenty of time at each venue.

Isle of Wight Council’s Cabinet member for Children & Young People Alan Wells said “We would respectfully ask those who are attending these meetings to understand they are designed so as many people as possible can ask questions. We understand this is an emotive subject for many people and you will want to make your views known, but we would ask you to consider others and to limit your attendance to one meeting if at all possible.

We would also like to remind Islanders the best way to tell us what you think about the proposals is to complete the questionnaire in the consultation booklet or online at www.iwight.com”

Ten public meetings are due to be held across the Island. A full list of venues is below. All meetings are due to start at 1900.
