Man admits poisoning badger setts in Niton

It’s today emerged that the man who was arrested in connection with the pouring poison into around 20 badger setts on land in Niton, Isle of Wight has admitted the offence.

Isle of Wight police tell OnTheWight that the man, an unnamed 65-year old, has been ordered to reimburse the RSPCA for costs incurred cleaning up the contaminated soil.

“Largest amount of poison I have ever seen”
At the time of the original report, 16th January 2014, the RSPCA Inspector Mark Buggie said, “There’s no doubt in my mind this was a deliberate act of cruelty. It was the largest amount of poison I have ever seen – there was buckets of the stuff dumped at the entrance of these setts.”

OnTheWight has asked the police if the man was prosecuted. They replied that it was dealt with by the person paying costs.
