This Thursday, at Ventnor Middle School, a very special event is taking place.
School teacher, Richard Simpson, who is running in the Brighton and London marathons next month on consecutive weekends, will be starting the day by running all the way to the school from Cowes (weather permitting).
Blimey, what a way to start the day!
Pupils at the school will be doing their bit too, with some of the other teachers getting involved too.
To raise funds for the very worthy causes of UKSA in Cowes and UK charity Breaks for Kids, staff and pupils will be aiming to run five marathons during the school day by completing ‘laps’ of the school grounds. Phew, that’s 130 miles!
If you want to help support the events, Richard has set up a Just Giving page.
Richard tells us he chose the two charities after working with UKSA before with children from the school, and was introduced to Breaks for Kids through them.
He ran his first marathon last year in Amsterdam last year (pictured) and has been in training for the two forthcoming marathons since completing the Great South Run, the Ryde 10 miles and last weekend the Reading Half-Marathon.
We wish Richard and all those involved the very best of luck tomorrow. Keeping our fingers crossed for dry weather.
