A mixture of results for the Isle of Wight hockey club, with two wins and two losses.
Swanage and Wareham 1 – Isle of Wight 1s 7
The men’s first team’s success continued after facing Swanage and Wareham in an away game.
After a flurry of goals in the first half and some questionable decisions in the second half, the Island side came away victorious.

Southampton University 4 – Isle of Wight women 1s – 0
The women’s first team faced Southampton University in an away game where sadly, their winning streak came to an end. Despite some chances which came their way; including a top-of-the-D shot which hit the post; the Island side were unable to convert and ended up playing a mostly defensive game.
A disappointing score, but good game to reflect on as they continue the season.
Isle of Wight 2s 7 – Alton 4s 1
The Island men’s second team entertained Alton 4s at Smallbrook. The Island started brightly and after some great passing play in the midfield, the ball fell to Steven Holbrook, who calmly passed it into the goal from the edge of the D.
Opportunity came again for the Island after an impressive solo run ended with Thomas Young slotting the ball past the keeper. Spirits were high as shortly before half-time, Jonny Kirby deflected a fed-in shot into the back of the net.
The second half was much the same as the first, with the defence controlling Alton’s attack and feeding the Island’s press upfront, which led to more success, including a great first senior league goal from Nathan Bruce.

Isle Wight women’s 2s 3 – Hamble 5
Home game for the women of the 2s against top of the table Hamble. It was the Island side that took the early lead from a short corner; a strong push out from Alice gave Aly Townsend plenty of time to fire the ball in the goal.
The lead didn’t last long and Hamble soon equalised. And added another shortly after. The Island started the second half strongly, but again it was Hamble who found the net to go 3-1 up. Some strong midfield play from Alice and Megan got the ball into the Hamble D and some good linking play gave Megan the opportunity to grab the Island’s second.
Unfortunately Hamble then added another as the Island started to tire. The Island did find the net again from a short corner almost a repeat of the first, but with a little help from a Hamble foot!
This gave the Island some hope, but sadly Hamble stayed strong and added another goal.
