The Alliance group, who is currently in charge of Isle of Wight council, is creating a new Cabinet position, News OnTheWight has learnt.
Cllr Karen Lucioni, elected representative of Ryde Monktonmead, will become Cabinet member for Public Protection, Regulatory Services and Waste.
It’s thought this may become public at this evening’s Corporate Scrutiny Committee meeting.
The changes
Waste was previously overseen by Cllr Jonathan Bacon. Community Protection (broadly, police and fire) is/was under deputy leader, Cllr Ian Stephens.
News OnTheWight understands that Cllr Bacon will gain responsibility for IWC Legal and HR, previously part of Cllr Chris Jarman’s portfolio.
Waste is currently detailed on the IWC Website as; Waste Collection, Waste Disposal, Waste Derived Fuel Plant, Household Waste and Recycling Centres.
Public safety a key passion
Reading Cllr Lucioni’s Annual Report 2022 for relevant comments, News OnTheWight found she stated,
“One of my key passions is public safety and I have continued to work on the Ryde world cafe on violence and anti-social behaviour with residents and partners to create social change and enterprise which will help Ryde become a safer place for all.”
Later she also says a key priority for her is, “public safety[,] especially safer streets for women.”
News OnTheWight has contacted Cllr Lucioni, but has yet to hear back.
The increase of responsibility that Cabinet members take on doubles the councillor’s basic allowance.
Cllr Lucioni’s elevation to a Cabinet member role will take the total number of Cabinet members to ten (including the Leader).
