Newport IW FC champions local foodbanks with in-game collections initiative

Newport IW FC is to begin collections for local foodbanks at home games beginning with the first match of the season this Saturday at Beatrice Avenue.

The new Chairman of the Supporters Trust,  Steve Rackett said,

“Newport is very much a community club – owned by all of us as members and connected to our friends and neighbours, many of whom are going through difficult times.

“We can use our position as community leaders to help local food pantries to widen the number of collection points on the Island, so we are asking supporters to bring along items of non-perishable food or unopened essentials for the kitchen or bathroom and place it in the collection box when they enter the ground.

“In addition, in recognition or the current economic climate and a wish to see more families at our games, we have now extended free entry to all under 16s at all home games.”

Where and when
Newport will continue to play in the Wessex League and their first home game of the season is at Beatrice Avenue, East Cowes, against Fawley on Saturday 5th August (from 3pm).

Since the end of last season the number of people who are members of the Supporters Trust has doubled and seven more people have come forward to join the committee that runs the body.

As well as continuing to play in Wessex League Division one, the club will have a new reserves team, playing in Island League Division Two.
