We had to look twice at this headline yesterday in The Telegraph …
“Banks raid training budgets for Cowes”
We initially read it as ‘Bank Raids training budgets for Cowes’ thinking that Cowes was about to become a target for bank raids and that staff were to be trained for what to do in such an event.
Reading on through the article it was soon apparent that what was being reported was something very different.
Apparently, due to the tightening of belts, banks are having to get busy with the creative accounting and rather than splashing out through hospitality budgets, this year they’re dipping into their training budgets to send their staff out on boats during Cowes week.
So, no need to worry if you have a friend who works in a Cowes based bank – or those who rent out yachts to the corporates. Looks like they’ll be doing OK this year despite the credit crunch.
