Thanks to Mandy for details of this decision by Governors at Northwood Primary school. Ed
The governing body of Northwood Primary School has unanimously decided to apply to the Department for Education to convert to an academy.
Though it is theoretically possible that the application could be refused, it is highly unlikely given Northwood’s outstanding Ofsted judgement and excellent SATs results.
The school will be aiming for a conversion date of April 2013.
“Academy status offers opportunity to preserve school’s unique character and ethos”
Wendy Bluestone, Chair of Governors said: “This decision follows a full consultation, commissioned by the governing body, which took place during September and October. Governors carefully considered the response to the consultation before making their decision and a copy of the consultation report is available on the school’s website for everyone to see. Many thanks to all who responded to the consultation, either in writing or by attending consultation meetings; your views are important to us.
“We would never support any move that didn’t enhance our ability to provide the very best for our pupils. We truly believe that academy status offers a real opportunity to preserve the school’s unique character and ethos and will enable us build on Northwood’s already outstanding achievements.”
