Parker: Keep your guard up
Steve Parker, Medical Director at Isle of Wight NHS Trust said,
“We are definitely feeling the impact of the rise in cases across the Island over the last month and now have more than 30 people in hospital with a Covid-19 diagnosis.
“That might not sound like a huge number and it is certainly less than the peak of the second wave, but it is still around 20 per cent of the total number of beds in St Mary’s Hospital and our teams are under increasing pressure.
“We are also seeing some very sick people in intensive care, many of whom have not been vaccinated.”
Many in ICU not vaccinated
Mr Parker went on to say,
“Our plea to the Island community is to please keep your guard up.
“You can help us by getting vaccinated if you haven’t already, make sure you get your second jab if you still need it and wear a mask or face covering in crowded places to try and limit the spread of the virus.
“We are here for you but we need your help.”
