Pappa Clip: An Unexpected Honour

An extract from the Island Independent. Submitted by Pappa Clip. Ed

Wedding HorsehoeAn unconfirmed rumour has reached this office that a certain member of the Isle of Wight Council has been invited to attend as a guest at the upcoming Royal Wedding.

This is apparently in line with the wish of Buckingham Palace that as many of Her Majesties’ common subjects as possible feel involved.

The councillor concerned however is believed to be less than enthusiastic. The problem is the implication that he is part of the commonalty of the realm.

“I fully realise I have been elected to serve the common people – in a way – but I do rather object to being classed as amongst them,” he is reported as saying “I am after all a councillor of some standing, as well as the owner of a successful business – until the last government’s irresponsible action drove me into bankruptcy that is. I do feel that entitles me to some sort of recognition of my standing in society. The thought of being corralled in some dark corner of Westminster Abbey, along with road sweepers and ditch diggers and the like, frankly does not appeal.”

We hope you enjoyed this week’s spoof from Pappa Clip. Ed
