The Guardian Website ran an article today reporting that Academy Enterprise Trust (who are the sponsors for Ryde and Sandown Bay Academies as well as Weston Primary) paid almost £500,000 over three years to private businesses owned by its trustees and executives.
An Observer investigation has revealed that AET has paid nearly £500,000 into the private business interests of its trustees and executives.
As well as payments being made to companies in which AET bosses have an interest, such as project management and HR consultancy, payments have also been made to AET trustees. The Observer report reveals these payment to be described as “not normal practice” by the regulator of academies.
Readers may remember that the taxpayer-funded academy chain, AET, was criticised by the Department for Education earlier in the year for the poor performance of schools it manages.
