Peace Routes Join Fast For Palestinian Political Prisoners

This Thursday sees a mass-fast in support of the 1,600-2,000 Palestinian political prisoners who are on hunger strike

Thanks to Linda for sharing details of this upcoming fast. Having not seen any media reports about the hunger strikes, it’s good to be able to share the news. In her own words. Ed

Peace cranes:Peace Routes will be joining the fast (initiated by Jewish voices for peace) on Thursday 17th May in support of the 1,600 – 2,000 Palestinian political prisoners on hunger strike.

One man is close to death having been on hunger strike for over 70 days, others also have seriously weakened health.

Largest hunger strike in history
It is the largest hunger strike in history and most of our main media has failed to report the news of this desperate attempt by imprisoned Palestinians to be heard, where they are protesting about being held without trial, under the ‘arbitrary arrest’ and ‘administrative detention’ procedures, amongst other violations of their human rights.

Hunger strike posterIt is a peaceful protest and should be applauded, the restraint of Palestinians in not turning to violence is little reported in the established news channels.

Many people around the globe are awake to the corporate media’s failing in this respect, and this gap has been filled by other, more trusted alternatives.

According to today’s Independent, the hunger strikes have been called off following negotiations between Egyptian/Jordanian representatives and the Israeli government that came up with changes to the prison conditions.

Yes that is good news Mike. Thanks to the good will, courage and resolve of many people, especially those on hunger strike the deep rooted injustice has been bought to light, and helped to bring this about. There is still a need to be vigilent and for that reason I will still be fasting tomorrow as planned. Going back to old news the prisoner swap of one… Read more »

You can get some idea of the kind of sacrifice made by the hunger strikers when you read this extract from a letter Thaer Halahleh wrote to his daughter‏. (On July 19 2010, Thaer became a father to baby Lamar but only got to meet her months later on October 9, the first visit allowed him since his last arrest and the only time his family were… Read more »

If thousands of prisoners were on hunger strike anywhere else in the world – Iran for instance – I’m pretty sure there would have been some news coverage. The BBC is appallingly biased in favour of Israel. According to Conservative Friends of Israel, 80% of Conservative MPs are members – and the Lib Dems and Labour Party also have ‘Friends of Israel’ groups. Shows again how out… Read more »
