People Media UK: Two years of impactful storytelling and local empowerment (updated)

Isle of Wight-based TV Production company, People Media UK, is marking its second anniversary with a significant milestone; fortifying its established partnership with BBC’s The One Show as a trusted supplier. This month, the company has three films scheduled for broadcast on the popular show.

A touching tale of two rescued tigers
Their celebration is set to begin with a double feature on The One Show later in June. The first film to be showcased is the touching tale of two rescued tigers at the Belarus border.

The tigers, two females named Sophti and Topf, were relocated to the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary a few weeks ago, where they are acclimatising to their new, permanent home.

An in-depth exploration of Walking Cricket
The second instalment viewers can look forward to later in June is presented by Angela Rippon, and provides an in-depth exploration of Walking Cricket.

The programme promises a rich mix of human interest and wildlife stories.

Saudan: “Absolutely fabulous”
Lee Saudan, Head of Marketing at the Sanctuary, has praised the People Media UK team for their work on the project, describing the production as “absolutely fabulous”.

She expressed her admiration for the team’s professionalism, stating she was “super impressed” by their dedication and skill.

Veteran’s Lounge and Hotel
The third film will make its debut on 23rd June, coinciding with Armed Forces Day. This special feature delves into the story of the Veteran’s Lounge and Hotel, the first hotel of its kind in the town to offer free accommodation to veterans in need.

The piece will also include footage from a musical celebration, to be filmed at the local venue, Montage Place.

A wealth of experience to offer
Producers Tony Steyger and Barbara Jane Mackie, both former producers for the BBC and Channel 4, have a wealth of experience to offer.

Barbara, a BBC-trained scriptwriter, drama producer and script editor, believes in giving back to the community. She explains that the company values connecting with other media professionals and nurturing the growth of the creative industries in the local area.

Keeping it local
The duo, who work closely with students from the Isle of Wight College as trainees, prefer to shoot locally whenever possible.

They also engage the expertise of Island media professionals, with Dayita Sagger-Hayward serving as their regular Production Coordinator, and their two TV editors also based on the Island.

Personal stories of national relevance
In the pipeline, the team is preparing a short film about John Ackroyd, the Island-based designer of the first commercially available electric car, built in 1973.

Tony comments that the Isle of Wight is home to many personal stories of national relevance, which are the narratives they aim to share.

Barbara’s rich career includes writing and directing her first musical with a local cast, and successfully securing Arts Council funding to bring it to the London stages. She has since written the screenplay for ‘Rumpy Pumpy!’ and ‘Cowboy Girls’.
