A report of someone seen in the River Medina lead to Cowes RNLI lifeboat carrying out a thorough search this afternoon.
Solent Coastguard raised the alarm after receiving a report that someone had fallen into the river from a yacht north of the Folly Inn.
Detailed search of the area
The lifeboat, with Kevin Richardson at the helm, carried out a detailed search both north and south of the Folly, assisted by a whole range of boats. Meanwhile auxiliary coastguards from Ventnor conducted a search of the eastern shore.
After nothing was found the coastguards agreed the search should be called off.
The lifeboat, which had been launched just after 1pm, returned to station at Shepards Wharf Marina at 2.30pm.
