Personal pledges can be anything, from encouraging people to speak out against child sexual exploitation to educating others about the issue.
Young people will have an opportunity to write their own pledge at the Isle of Wight College as the IOWSCB is parking the Youth Offer bus at the college between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 18 March.
Leaflets and information will be on hand explaining the importance of thinking about different relationships, and the warning signs to be aware of. The pledges will be photographed and posted on the IOWSCB Twitter feed (@iowscb).
“We all have a responsibility to keep children safe”
Julie Davies, Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Board and partnership manager, said:
“It is really important that we raise awareness of the issues of child sexual exploitation as we all have a responsibility to keep children safe. I hope people will take the time to post a personal pledge on social media tomorrow in support of this national awareness day.”
What is the IOWSCB?
The IOWSCB exists to ensure all local agencies work together to inform, educate and prevent any form of abuse or harm to children on the Island. As well as agencies, such as the Isle of Wight Council, Hampshire Constabulary and the Isle of Wight NHS, the IOWSCB works with and supports schools, GPs, pharmacists and community and voluntary groups to keep children safe on the Isle of Wight.
