Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Western Gardens, Ryde Esplanade at around 12.30am on Thursday, August 8.

The 33-year-old man challenged a group of people when he was concerned about their treatment of their dog. He was subsequently assaulted by a member of the group, being punched and kicked several times.

The man was treated at St Mary’s Hospital for head and neck injuries. He sustained soft tissue damage.

Description of offender
The offender is described as:

White man
5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall
Stocky build
Brown hair
Wearing a light coloured t-shirt and blue jeans

PC Richard Hindle said:

“It is believed that there were people around in the gardens at the time of the incident.

“It is completely unacceptable that someone who felt the need to challenge the behaviour of another was attacked in this way. Considering the nature of the assault the man came away with relatively minor injuries.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information should contact PC Hindle at Ryde police station on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 11.
