Police have confirmed to OnTheWight they have received an allegation of irregularities made against the Isle of Wight Conservative Party. The Party tell us that they haven’t been contacted by the Police, as the time of publishing.
Responding to a query this afternoon (Friday) they said,
“We can confirm we have received an allegation of irregularities made against the Isle of Wight Conservative Party.
“We are speaking with the complainant. We are not in a position to comment any further at this time.”
Might be nothing
Of course, someone alleging a crime has taken place does not mean that any crime has occurred. It just means that someone has made an allegation. The Police will then listen, consider if there is any action to take, before contacting the party the allegation is made against.
Please note the police statement does not mention Andrew Turner, or his election campaign, just the Isle of Wight Conservative Association.
Police yet to contact Conservatives
OnTheWight spoke to Ian Ward, Chairman of the Isle of Wight Conservatives, who said, “We’ve heard nothing from the police as yet.”
Update: Ian Ward came to speak to us at the election count (7th May) and said he still hadn’t heard from the Police in connection with this.
