Police response to Ryde murder incident referred to Independent Office for Police Conduct (updated)

Hampshire Constabulary have been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in relation to their response to the murder incident in Ryde earlier this week.

Hampshire Constabulary say that officers had initially attended an address in George Street at approximately 2.50am on Tuesday 4th January.

It was then when Police attended on the afternoon of the same day that the body of the man, aged in his 30s, was discovered.

Police referred themselves
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that the circumstances surrounding their response to this incident has been referred, by themselves, to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

News OnTheWight has put a series of questions to the IOPC.

An IOPC spokesperson,

“I can confirm we have received a referral from the force and it is with our assessment unit.

“We will make a decision on the level of IOPC involvement in due course.”

Three arrested
Three men have now been arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the investigation.

Our thoughts are with family and friends on the man who lost his life.
