Prestigious Green Flag Award for Northwood Cemetery

Northwood Cemetery is raising its prestigious Green Flag Award.

On Tuesday, the Friends of Northwood Cemetery, in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council, celebrated after receiving a Green Flag Award for Northwood Cemetery — one of 2,208 UK winners.

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Parks and green spaces have play a vital role
After two years that have seen our parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely, the news that Northwood Cemetery has achieved the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that make the green space a great space that everyone can enjoy.

A result of the tremendous hard work and dedication
A spokesperson for the Friends of Northwood Cemetery said,

“This is the fifth year in succession that we have been successful in achieving Green Flag status and is a result of the tremendous hard work and dedication of a small team of volunteers, fully supported by the Isle of Wight council; an achievement of which we are all immensely proud.

“We continue to work hard on both the visual appearance of the cemetery and encouraging members of the public to share and enjoy all the facilities we have on offer.

“This award justifies our confidence in helping provide a safe, welcoming green space in Cowes and a place that supports the wellbeing of the local community.”

Todd: Testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers
Keep Britain Tidy’s accreditation manager, Paul Todd, said,

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Northwood Cemetery worthy of a Green Flag Award.

“Northwood Cemetery is a vital green space for the community in Cowes. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
