Rescue Group Will Bid For Winter Gardens

Ventnor Winter GardensThe Ventnor Winter Gardens Rescue Group have decided that they are going to be bidding to take over the iconic Art Deco building on behalf of the community.

The Group, whose members include a chartered surveyor, solicitor, accountant, local builder and hoteliers, say that their research has shown that it will be possible to reopen the building and renovate it without the need for an on-going council subsidy.

John Allen from the Group said “We need to broaden the range of activities taking place in the hall and make sure that it is used much more often, plus we need to establish a new style all day catering outlet. The Winter Gardens needs to, once again, take up its position right at the heart of the community in Ventnor, both for residents and visitors.”

Make your pledge
The group have already set up the Ventnor Winter Gardens Trust and are applying for charity status. They are conducting a survey around the town to find out how residents would like to use the building and in response to public demand are asking for pledges to provide start-up funding for the venture.

Pledges can be made at the Group’s website or at Bizzy Lizzy’s shop in Pier Street in the town.
