IW Council is warning residents of urgent repairs to a main drain in Brading that will require the closure of the town’s High Street to all traffic.

From 0900 on Monday 20 June until around 1400 on Tuesday 21 June, the High Street will be closed in both directions from outside The Bugle pub with no through access.

Access for residents and local businesses
Although residents will be able to access their premises and local businesses, all other traffic will be diverted towards Bembridge.

Diversion signs will be in place at the entrance to Carpenters Road for cars coming from Ryde, while they will be at Morton Common crossroads for cars coming from Sandown.

Underground investigations by IW Council revealed a drain is at risk of collapsing which needs urgent repair to avoid a potential failure of the road.

Vital repairs needed to avoid serious accident
IW Council Head of Highways and Transport Peter Hayward said “I am pleased that we have been able to identify this problem before it caused a dangerous void beneath the road which could have lead to a serious accident.

“Although we need to close the road for just over a day whilst we resolve the problem, I am sure that people will appreciate the need to fix the issue urgently before the holiday period gets underway and will plan their journeys accordingly.”
