Your Chance to Return to SportFive new courses to help Island residents get active and fit are being launched by the Isle of Wight Council.

Anyone aged 16+ can take part in a variety of sports under the council’s popular Return to Sport courses, each starting in September.

From 11 September, Newport Golf Club hosts the start of a six week course for golf fans, at a cost of £15 per person. The sessions take place between 1300 – 1400 every Saturday.

The popular sport of Racketball makes it debut under the Return to Sport scheme, with a 10 week course beginning at Westridge Centre in Ryde from Monday 13 September. The sessions are held between 2000 – 2100 and the cost is £20 for the whole course, although there will not be any sport on the 18 and 25 October.

The following night on Tuesday 14 September, Westridge Centre hosts the start of a 10 week squash course at a cost of £20 per person. The sessions will not be held on 19 or 26 October.

Badminton returns for a eight week course from 16 September. Held at Ryde Sports Centre, the course is £16 per person and each session is held between 1900 – 2000 every Thursday.

Finally, the popular fitness activity, Yoga, begins at 10 week course from 16 September at the Isle of Wight Community Club in Cowes. It takes place between 1000 – 1100 every Thursday morning and costs £25 per person for the course.

George Brown, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member responsible for leisure said: “The latest Return to Sport courses feature a variety of activities. With a wide choice, everyone should find something to their liking.

“This is a great opportunity to maintain personal fitness and meet new friends at the same time.”

Each course is designed for people who would like to get back into a sport they may have participated in when they were younger. They are open to all abilities, even complete beginners and provide an opportunity to get fit in a fun and friendly environment with likeminded people.
