Thanks to Steve for this update from the Ryde Rowing Club. Ed
WOOLSTON REGATTA, Saturday, 14th June, 2014
The three Island Rowing Clubs got together on Saturday (14th June) to overcome the transportation issues and depleted teams caused by the IW Festival, with Ryde providing the boat trailer and Newport the towing vehicle to transport all three club’s boat and equipment to the mainland with the clubs sharing the cost.
Fifth consecutive win for Ryde team
The effort was worthwhile for the Ryde Club as their Men’s Junior Senior Four of Andy Hicks, Adam Edwards, Ollie Gove and James Cleary with coach Mick Jenner coxing, secured their fifth consecutive win to take a firm grip on this Hants & Dorset Championship and pretty much guarantee that they will be selected to represent the Association at the South Coast Championship at Swanage in September.
Further good performances
There were further good performances from the Ladies Junior Pair of Jodie Cocker and Steph Kissick – and Men’s Senior Sculler Mick Jenner who both finished second in their event – Boys J16 Single Sculler – Steven Soal – who finished third against older opposition – and for Men’s Novice Sculler Andy Hicks who finished fourth.
The young Men’s Novice crew of Ben Toms, Steven Soal, Jacob Redstone and Matt Jacob with Andy Hicks coxing raced well in their heat to finish in fifth place – but missed out on a place in the final – and then competed in the Boy’s J16 Fours race where they were unfortunate to suffer from equipment failure when their rudder line snapped at the start forcing their withdrawl from the race.
