Further to our earlier article highlighting the need for pupils at Ryde Academy, who have been studying Japanese for the last two years, to chose another language to take for GCSE, we’ve received the following response from the Principal at Ryde Academy. In their own words. Ed
We sent a letter to Year 9 parents on the 20th March to alert them to the fact that the Japanese teacher was leaving the Academy in May and we are not confident about being able to find a replacement.
In the letter we outlined two choices that could be pursued by students affected by this decision.
1. Select another language in the place of Japanese as the GCSE courses for the affected year group have not yet started, and the students would not be sitting final Language exams until June 2015, or;
2. Select an additional option subject in place of Japanese rather than another Language.
In the same letter we also made it clear that we will continue to pursue all options including finding a new Japanese teacher.
On the Options Evening, held on 21st March, we discussed this at length with parents and students attending and have taken their valuable feedback into consideration whilst we attempt to resolve the situation.
