Ryde School pupils win national quiz championship for the second consecutive year

Ryde School pupils have been crowned national school quiz champions for the second year running.

The Year 8 quartet of Elmo, Harvey, Jack and Arthur won the final of the senior category at the National Schools’ Quiz, hosted by What on Earth! children’s magazine.

Nearly 100 schools took part from across the country, with Ryde beating Arden Academy from the West Midlands in the final for ages 12 to 14.

This year’s victory followed their win in the junior competition in 2024.

Pointer: Every member of the team played their part
Ryde School teacher, Dr Marie Pointer, who supported the team, said,

“It was a fantastic day in London and every member of the team played their part.

“The organisers and the other schools were all incredibly impressed by our team, many commenting on their extreme dedication.

“We split the revision materials between the members of the team, so each one had a role to fulfil.

“They were all excellent and it was a true team effort.”

Now eyeing a hat-trick
Quiz questions were taken from issues of the What on Earth! magazine, split into a range of different categories.

Following their latest triumph, the Ryde team is now eyeing a hat-trick.

Elmo, aged 12, said,

“We really enjoyed taking part and it was incredible to win again.

“We hope to make it three in a row next year.”
