Sandown High School: School Reorganisation Public Meeting

Text that follows is taken directly from the Isle of Wight Council Website:

Whilst we want as many people as possible to attend the meetings and to tell us their views, it is important to note that due to strict health and safety laws, numbers of visitors at each venue will be limited. We advise anyone who plans on attending a meeting to arrive in good time. Each meeting starts at 7pm.

If you are planning on attending the first public meeting, please be aware that parking at Osborne Middle School is limited. Isle of Wight Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause. If people are unable to attend a meeting due to capacity being reached at the respective venues, we will endeavour to arrange for a second meeting to be held in the area at a future date, should the need arise. In this case, a new meeting will be advertised.

Your views are important to the consultation process and the series of meetings arranged will provide you with an opportunity to ask questions and share your thoughts on the options.

If you have not done so already, we would encourage you to fill out the questionnaire in the consultation booklets or online by clicking here. If you require any further information, you can ring the council on 821000.

There are 10 meetings scheduled to take place at various different locations across the Island over the next three weeks. A full list of the public meetings is shown below.

This is a good start, well done. There is no reason why Independent councillors and candidates cannot unite and work together. If they show a united approach at this stage then they will have more credibility at the election and a better chance of working together later.

A very sensible idea, Dave. Independents, it seems, are the only viable alternative to the island’s Tory herd. Good luck with it.

Hurray for Dave Quigley! This is indeed an excellent initiative! My hope too is that the Council next time around will be run by people who first and foremost represent the island…

VB: you have put 2012 on the Facebook heading!

Great idea and plenty of time to get it high profile before next year.

I can’t wait to be rid of the Conservative lot in 2013, but why vote independent? We’ve recently seen Wayne Whittle move over to the Conservative side at County Hall. Why? Because that’s where his views really lie. How many other independents feel the same way? The fact is, when we’re electing an independent we have no idea where their own support really lies. “It will be… Read more »

I agree…what you are really opposed to is not party politics, but the party that is in power. Independents can work very well with councillors from other parties as long as those councillors are willing to play ball…the Tory cabal are not. We need effective opposition to the Tories and effective councillors thereafter…not independents playing lip service to get elected. Labour can and will produce alternative candidates… Read more »

If that was supposed to be a joke, it was it wasn’t funny or clever.

why would Labour bring in more faith schools…religion is a personal thing, but generally. most socialists lean towards aetheism

PS we did vote in the Taliban indirectly…under s slightly different name our selected government supported them against the Russians and help them set up a government…now under that same government we are trying to remove them

Well done, Dave!! The Island has lots of people who only have the Island at heart – witness the recent Save the Island Debate which was castigated as “drivel” by at least one Tory councillor!! The task now is to martial the prospective Independent councillors to take on and defeat this bunch of no-brainers in order to regenerate the Island. Step forward the Alliance to get the… Read more »

I think that it would have been better to wait until your site is fully functioning before letting the public access it. It is very laudable but looks amateurish without the promised content. No doubt it will get better so good luck!

The site is fully functional- as it relies on input from others I have to wait until they have time to prepare newsletters etc, the site will always be in a state of flux as new material comes in. I can also assure you the webmaster is not an amateur, so please cut out the insults, unless of course you are member of the ruling group when… Read more »

Never mind the site looks amateurish – this is someone who has got off his a*** and created something with every good intention. He’s done it himself, at no cost to anyone. Easy to sit back and criticise.

About time we looked beyond clever marketing and superficial image and go with what’s real.

How many of IWC’s decisions are reversible? Buildings disposed-of may be near impossible to bring back into IWC control and working to have a local focus on procurement may run up against EU wide legislation.

Dave, I was 100% behind you in the fight against library closures but for someone who doesn’t believe in party politics you are doing an awful lot of of politicking. You seem to be trying to create your own “political party”?

No ML, I’m not trying to create anything, I am offering support to Independents, I will not be involved beyond my website and will have no influence in the group. Your comment was pre-empted in my orginal letter, that a group of like minded people should try and work together for the good of their community is not “politics”, it is what local government should be about.

Dave, where does David Whitaker fit into all this? If he’s not in a political party, he should be an independent, yet he’s not. Why? Did the independents not accept him into the group? If so, it’s looking more and more like a political party to me, and sadly one that’s only a slightly lighter shade of blue.

“…where does David Whitaker fit into all this?”

As a shining example of our proudly unique & exciting local political scene, this disgraced convicted sex offender continues to vote with and be tolerated by his former(?)tory dictator colleagues.

Well done Dave. I’d like to see all those opposed to the current ruling group get together for a constructive debate about the best way to get them voted out, whether that be by voting in independents, some form of tactical voting or whatever!

If anybody has an inclination to stand next year, remember the people who voted you in and serve them first. Not your party or group of independants. They are the people who put you there so stick with them.

exactly Mr. General…the colour of the tie ( or lack of a tie) does not make one a good or bad councillor…I’m sure we have good Tory Councillors (somewhere) and terrible Independent ones. Its their ability to effectively represent their electorate that matters.
