Second Asphalt Plant Proposal Lodged With Council

Aggregate Industries, who were part of highways PFI bidder Wight Highways Partnership, have submitted an application to increase and modernise their current asphalt plant.

Bardon Vectis application:The application seeks to replace the existing asphalt plant at Blackwater Quarry, St. Georges Down, for a more modern and efficient plant capable, which they say, will be capable of meeting the Island’s increased asphalt demand once the highways PFI contract goes ahead.

This is the second application for an asphalt plant that is currently lodged with the council.

Members of the public are invited to comment on the Blackwater application by 3rd August 2012.

Medina application attracted opposition
The other proposed asphalt plant at Medina Wharf, submitted by European company Eurovia, will also aim to supply the asphalt for PFI contract winner Vinci.

This application has met fierce opposition by residents and environmentalists, who say it is far too close to residential areas.
