Another year has passed and once again it’s National Poetry Day.
Why not take some time out to indulge in the words of your favourite poet.
We find it can help put things into perspective and allows a time for reflection.
Standing the test of time
This poem by American poet, EE Cummings (1894 – 1962), is one of our favourites, it feels particularly poignant despite being written many decades ago.
to be nobody but
yourself in a world
which is doing its best day and night to make you like
everybody else means to fight the hardest battle
which any human being can fight and never stop fighting
An evening of poetry and jazz
If you’d like to listen to some poetry and jazz tonight, head to Ryde School, where published and budding poets will be weaving their words through the haunting tones of local legend Paul Armfield and his trio.
What better and more unique way to celebrate National Poetry Day!
Free for students. £5 for adults, with a welcome glass of something appropriate from 7.30pm.
